CarbonArmor to the Rescue in Woodbridge, VA
Challenge
A homeowner in Woodbridge, VA contacted us with a steadily progressing problem in her basement. Over the years, the walls had developed cracks, which had slowly developed leaks. As the cracks leaked and widened, the walls began to bow. By the time she had called us, water was frequently leaking and puddling in her basement, and she knew she had to act now to make it stop.
Some possible causes of foundation wall cracks are shrinkage of concrete or mortar, soil settlement, soil pressure, and construction defects. Many times it's a combination of these that create the cracks.
Solution
There was no waterproofing system in the basement, and without getting the water under control it wouldn’t matter what we did to the walls (as the water would just continue to destroy them) so we needed to start there.
Our Basement Waterproofing Specialist, Jason, designed a waterproofing system that included our perimeter below-floor drain system, WaterGuard, and a SuperSump sump pump. Once we were confident that water leaks would not be an ongoing issue, we could tackle the walls, and our CarbonArmor came to the rescue. The CarbonArmor system permanently stabilizes your home's foundation walls. CarbonArmor uses fiber-reinforced polymers (FRPs) which are 10-times stronger than steel, yet flexible enough to contour tightly against your basement wall. The ArmorLock brackets bind and secure the CarbonArmor straps to your floor joists making the CarbonArmor solution fast, non-invasive and ideal for quickly stabilizing bowing and leaning walls.
With a reliable waterproofing system installed and the strength of CarbonArmor stabilizing the walls, this lovely homeowner's basement is in much better shape.
