Herndon Basement and Crawl Space That Needs It All

Challenge

This Herndon VA homeowner called 3 Pros Basement Systems due to some waterproofing concerns in their basement and crawl space. Their existing sump pump was not performing well and the plumbing used to help drain and discharge the water it could collect was in need of improvement. Additionally the crawl space of the home was unconditioned and had failing insulation that was coming loose from the floor above. This meant that poor quality air was being allowed to enter the home and living areas above the crawl space and outside temperatures were able to impact the temperature and condition of the crawl space. While inspecting the basement and crawl space our it was also found to have some ineffectively placed wall insulation and a need for rim joist insulation.

Solution

A number of different services and products were identified as the solutions for the different areas of this basement and crawl space. Seen in the photos here, our sales team has laid out a plan and clear description of what would be used in each area. This is what we present to our clients during the proposal for suggested services. Each area in this basement and crawl space had a different need for materials to solve the issues unique to that area.

This area in the crawl space needed material to cover the dirt floor and control the humidity, air and water.

Removing the failing insulation, treating the floors with cover material and insulating the walls of the crawl space will make it a controlled and conditionable area.

Insulating the walls eliminates the needs to insulate top area above. Removing this old failing insulation can help improve the air quality.

Cleaning up material like this, insulation the walls and covering the floor can turn this into a safe place for storage is the homeowner chooses.

CleanSpace is our floor covering solution, installed over top of the TerraBlock (dimple mat) which helps keep a barrier between the dirt floor and moisture filled air closest to it.

The entrance to the crawl space in this home can be sealed up with a door or custom cut piece of SilverGlo insulation paneling. Creating a break between the two areas is important. .

Removing the inefficient wall wrap in exchange for a treatment to seal up the rim joists shown here, will result in a better conditioned space and better result to control the temperatures and keep out external air.
