Photo Album: Fairfax VA Crawl Space and Basement Project

This Fairfax VA home had multiple issues that were troubling the homeowner including crawl space water, basement water, musty odors, cold floors, high energy bills and foundation windows that needed replacing. The homeowners called us to have a no charge Home Performance Inspection completed. Our Sales Pro Eric went out to visit and developed a plan to help solve those issues. Removal of the old insulation which had failed and was falling to the crawl space floor causing the cold floors was step 1. Our production team would then use spray foam to seal up the vented crawl space to keep external air, allergens and temperatures from impacting the home. Terra Block matting was used to cover the dirt floors and keep moisture/wetness from working into the air of the crawl space and home above. Clean space was used to cover the surface material and create a clean look with durability that allows storage in the area. Botanical spray was then used to kill off any remaining organic growth that may have started and create a clean smell in the space. More Clean Space was used to cover the walls of the crawl space and the basement. More spray foam was used to seal up the rim joist in the basement and create a more controlled environment in the home. This will all lead to improved air quality, better smelling air, improved energy efficiency in the home and allow for the crawl space to be useable.

Fallen Crawl Space Insulation

This traditional bat insulation had fallen loose of the crawl space ceiling and was making the floors above cold.

Moldy Crawl Space Insualtion

This traditional bat insulation had been acting like an air filter catching allergens, dust and moisture, leading to the nasty colors. This also helped to promote possible mold growth. Uncontrolled moisture and air temperatures in a crawl space are a bad combination that can lead to unhealthy air in your home.

Crawl Space Plastic

Seeing the layer of dust and dirt on top of the plastic covering the crawl space floors lets you know how dirty the air was inside External air came through vents allowing dirt, dust and allergens to come with them. Plastic does nothing to help this. It juts traps water and moisture below.

This Terra Block matting covers the dirt floors of the crawl space and creates a space where air can move freely while still keeping moisture contained.

Our production team would end up sealing this open crawl space vent, closing off the space to external air and temperatures.
