From Creepy to Clean - A Crawl Space Project
Challenge
Homeowners in Harpers Ferry, WV felt uncomfortable in the rooms above the crawl space in their house. Their energy bills were also higher than normal. One look in the crawl space and the problem was identified. The existing insulation was old, moldy, and falling down, making it ineffective. The dirt floor crawl space was also vented, allowing hot and cold air to enter and escape the home.
Solution
The solution for these homeowners was to encapsulate the crawl space with our CleanSpace Encapsulation System. This system consists of Drainage Matting, TerraBlock, Spray Foam, and CleanSpace. The moldy insulation was completely removed, and then the crawl space was properly air sealed and insulated. An EverLast crawl space door was installed, making an air and water seal certain. And since mold was present in the initial inspection, a SmartDrain System was also installed. This crawl space drain ensures that if a plumbing failure or flood ever occurs, the water will drain beneath the vapor barrier instead of collecting in the space. Now these homeowners are comfortable in any room in their house and they have lower energy bills.
