Closing Off a Vented Crawl Space
Challenge
A vented crawl space with uncontrolled air is never a good idea. Many homes designed with crawl spaces are built with open or partially open vents that allow air to move in and out of the crawl space. This can allow dust, allergens and moisture from outside to enter the home and become part of the air that the homeowners breath. If the crawl space itself is not properly treated or encapsulated, the dirt floors can become muddy and mold or mildew can appear. Eliminating uncontrolled air and reducing the ability for outside temperatures and moisture to impact the home can make the air inside healthier for the homeowners to breath and can help to improve the homes overall performance.
Solution
In addition to changing the type of insulation used inside of the crawl space, we installed a number of air tight vent covers and an Everlast crawl space entrance door. These will all help to keep the air flow in the crawl space reduced and controlled and will improve the performance of the insulation installed on the crawl space walls.
